Yeap! Just collected it few hours ago!
No pictures - it's just like in the marketing materials!
To the delight of the dealer, it came faster than expected and it's the first on in Ireland - for few days, there are couple more orders.

First impression: rims are spectacular! The car looks absolutely cool, but the rims are really great!
Finally the headlights are what every single car should have! It's very weird when they turn on the search for right position it goes up and down few times. But it's a great focused light, strong and I'm sure nobody will complain they are too bright!
Driving wheel feedback - oh yeah! I think they nailed it! It was fake on my previous C-HR, you could get used to it in no time. But this time it feels much more precise and feedback it's much more real.
Engine: out of curiosity I had a look. It looks messy, the 1.8 one looked so much tight up. But who cares? I'm opening it just to feed the it with washing fluid!
Noise: WOW! This is the big deal! No transmission, no engine noise! None whatsoever! Absolutely impressing! And it's not only compared to my previous C-HR! It's super quite! Some better tires would make it even better; just it's Ireland and it's a bit crazy to have summer tires. I may walk this path someday :)
Acceleration: not too much to say - it has 50% more power. It's fun and it will become even better after some km when I can push it a bit more! It is great!!!
Multimedia unit - 9 speakers, different configuration than my previous one, that also had JBL. Sounds really good! Nothing mind blowing, but good! Far better responsiveness - it just change the menus like it should be, no useless delays.
And it finally has Android Auto! From playing music to navigation - this just makes total sense! It's fast, it there and absolutely easy to use, Assistant is there willing to do the chores. Simply great!

What I don't get, because there are those too:
- why put electric controls for the seats only for driver?
- booths is smaller, not by a lot and there's good space underneath the "cover" - I had a good setup to go to the airport, now I have to rethink it.
- headlights are not turning on before you move the car. Nothing crazy, but why? I don't have a dark garage and I don't know if lights won't turn on when it's dark before moving the car.
- connecting the multimedia unit to internet is complicated. Not a deal breaker, you get what you need from Android Auto, but it's not intuitive to connect it to home WiFi or to phone hotspot.

Long post - some more observations as they'll come.

1. School run and cold !=love for a 2l engine. Last 2 petrol station visits showed a 7.3l/100km average!
2. Still a beautiful car! Even dirty!
3. I tried Sygic! Instead of Google Maps or Waze! They open navigation to 3rd parties and Sygic is first! Looks super good! But don't use Emma's voice in Sygic unless you love adult movies!
4. I wonder if lockdowns didn't turn some people into stupid drivers? At least in Ireland this looks like to be true! And it's not because of Christmas rush or because some people are well above driving age (I'm not too far from renewing driving license yearly because of the age), but man...some people have to realise they are incapable!

1st year service.
Nothing to complain on my side. Just an 1h quick service. Oil, automated tests. All green.
Price: 0Euro! Because Toyota Ireland and first 3 yearly visits are free of charge.

I told them when I'll be able to come back and collect it. By the time I arrived, they washed and clean the car. But Toyota Sandyford was always a great dealer, the best one I've ever worked with!

First birthday!
12800km and all great! Today it saw its first snow. Covering camera near mirror and it disabled anti-collision system
Fuel consumption: it hates 5-6km rides. Only from shirt rides average can easily go to 7-7.5l/100km. For rides of15-20 or longer, it gets back to ~5.

21.000km in almost 19 months.
A rattling sound in the front dash. A long piece of plastic around AC display going all the way to the left side of the dash. On bumpy roads I had to press above the AC display to make it stop. Went to Toyota Sandyford, half an hour later all great at no costs! That team is great! If you're from Ireland I can't recommend them more!

Fuel consumption: a long hot weekend (yeah! That's possible in Ireland! Global warming!), 1000km averaging 4.9l/100km! My usual driving, 10-15km/h more than speed limit. Unless narrow b-roads where they say limit is 80 but you have to be a great driver on an empty road to dream of those speeds. My usual fuel consumption is 5.2-5.5 and I find it absolutely great! My first Toyota, a 2.0l Avensis, was never ever doing less than 8/100 on long trips. In the city 10 was a lucky moment. At one time I had a Ford with a 1.5tdci engine and that one was doing 5s only on long roads.
I'm impressed, utterly impressed, by how good the AC is! A huge improvement over my previous 2018 C-HR. I knew it warms up the cabin much faster. But during the hot period we had, it was just perfect! A matter of minutes to chill the kids on the backseat! Other than being more stable so kids are not getting carsick anymore, this is the second huge benefit!
What I wish it had:
- seat position memory. A visit to service and good luck remembering what button does what adjustment! For driver, it's a PITA to realize you thing you put the seat on the right position only to find minutes later is not ok. And doing adjustments while driving is no different than those drivers checking notifications on their phone while pretending to drive. And I'm lucky both my wife and I can happily share the same seat position.
- windscreen washing liquid level indicator. I have to carry a 5l bottle because you never know when you run off washing liquid.

A bit off-topic :) I remember locals were flying past us on those curvy hillside roads while I was visiting Ireland :D

I joined the team that's running out of battery.
I had my car parked for a full week. Yesterday when I touched the door handle, it unlocked, it start unfolding the mirrors, but it only managed to unfold one. The other one was just partially unfolded.
And that was all 12V battery could do!
Fortunately car park had an emergency breakdown assistance free of charge and they arrived in less than 10 minutes. I do have Toyota Assistance, but they can't be everywhere in no time. So I was lucky.

Interesting part is I took off memory card from my camera. Camera, a Thinkware Q800PRO is configured for battery protection and should turn itself off if battery level drops below 12v. But it stopped recording around 9h after me parking the car. And that's totally weird! It's fairly common for the car to stay parked for 12-15h and camera never stopped before. Even today, more than 12h after parking the car, camera was still working and car started.
It's totally unclear for me what exactly happened. I reached out to Toyota couple of hours ago and I won't be surprised if they will ask for a battery testing.
I'll buy myself a battery to jumpstart the car. I'll keep it in glove-box and now I know what needs to be done.

Very very annoying experience! My previous C-HR, a 2018 1.8l started even after 22 days in the airport parking. It may be the camera, but I don't know how to test that part :(

Update on battery.
I was looking to find what voltage the 12V battery should provide. No luck whatsoever, all I can find are vague ranges. But virtually everyone says once it drops below 12.0V that's not good.
As I'm a lazy person, I didn't buy a voltmeter. But I have the Thinkware camera that can do that for me. It has a system to turn itself off once 12V drops below a certain level. I configured it to turn off at 12.2V. And I found that turns itself off just minutes after turning off the car.
Went to 12.1 and it takes about 5-6 minutes.
Went to 12.0 and it still turn itself off in the same 5-6 minutes.
What's weird is this is happening if I'm driving 20km or 100km.
I asked Toyota to check the health of the 12V battery. Not to anyone's surprise, they quickly concluded it's gone and they replaced it.
Now my thoughts:
  • I had no problems with 12V battery on my 2018 C-HR. Even though that one was drove the same as this one. And that one stayed parked for 3 weeks without running out of juice.
  • camera. The other one didn't had an always on camera. But camera turns itself off once it reaches a certain voltage. So I can't directly blame it.
  • this model is much more aggressive in turning off ICE. It's a great improvement, I'm getting the same fuel consumption and I get 40-50 more horsepower. But I'm wondering if 12V battery is changing while ICE is off. Or I'm running lights, audio etc from a 12V battery that's only charging when ICE is working?
  • a widespread batch of 12V batteries?

Anyways, I'm not going to sound like a disappointed customer! I LOVE this car! Not only by how it looks, but how it drives, how comfortable it is. This one is a keeper!

The 12v battery charges from the high-voltage battery, not the ICE, so will be charging if ICE is off.

#37 ·
I think you're right. I found in the manual "The 12-volt battery recharges automatically while the hybrid system is operating". And since there's no reference of ICE, it's safe to assume 12V battery is charging also from hybrid battery.
Thanks for pointing to the right information. On the post above I was just speculating what could be the reasons.

As car is nearly 2yo and has 26500km (don't know when or where) I've made an appointment for the annual service.
Dropped the car at 9, call back to collect it at 12.
In Ireland Toyota offers first 3 services free of charge.
At around 11 I received an automated email with the report - all good.
Most impressive: disk breaks both front and rear used about 20%. I know regen helps a lot in preserving disks and breaks, but only 20% after 26k km...
Least impressive, but definitely not bad: tires are wear down uniformly (I do check the pressure every 3-4 months as I have an electric pump), but already at 5mm out of 8mm. That translates into maybe another 15k km and I have to replace all 4. Considering it's a heavy car, both of us are fairly "aggressive" drivers and I don't do summer and winter tires (would be ridiculous with Irish weather), I'm fairly happy with the speed tires are wearing down.
The report/form Toyota Sandyford sent had 3 questions: if I want to add fuel treatment (10€), change the polen filter (10€) and replace the wiper blades (40€). I was thinking to replace polen filter because humidity and dust because of all constructions in Dublin, but i didn't plan to ask them to do it. Wiper blades - the other driver says a loud yes when I asked her if I should have it replaced. 60€ in addition doesn't sound bad at all.

Like usual, they washed the car, clean the inside of the car (for some reasons when they clean it lasts lot longer then when we're cleaning it).

Done and happy.
Sales people were busy delivering 2 C-HRs.

Nice to hear. 3 months to my first service and I hope to get as good a treatment as that. Especially the car washing. Took mine to hand car wash for the first time before xmas (did it myself before that, but no time) and went to the wrong place - not one that did the detailing. It was fine, but seeing the pile of cloths they had in a bucket for washing has made me check for scratches. Will take it to the right place next time!

A through the forest highway, nearly no other traffic and I finally decided to test maximum speed. I was doing cruise control at 130km/h. Ask the lady for permission and there I went for.
I'm fairly sure at one moment I read somewhere that 2.0 engine is limited to 176km/h. Can't find that exact reference, but I can quickly find reviews talking about 112mph. So about there.
Car accelerated quite nice up until 170km/h and a tiny bit slower after that. Up until 193 where it stopped. Like simply: that's what you're getting today!
At the end of this month car will be 2.5yo. By then it will be 36000km.
Everything still good! Tomorrow a wash because it has 1 billion bugs killed. And a full tank - I'm using only normal petrol - madame concluded premium petrol is only good at increasing fuel consumption and I'm not driving often enough to have a different opinion.
Still a small rattling on the front air grill every now and then. But not sure worth the time fixing it.
And don't store luggage in front on the subwoofer! It's a big difference in sound quality!
I know... first world problems!

Another update on the battery: I had it parked for 12 days and 8h. Car started as it should! Always on camera is configured to shut itself off after reaching 12.2V - that may be the difference.
True, this is a 10 months old battery. The one that failed me was nearly 2 years old (car was build in Dec 2019 and I collected it in Jan 2020). Not that a nearly 2yo battery should fail after not starting the car for 8 days like it happened in 2021!
But this time I was prepared not to have to call emergency car park help. I bought from Halfords their own brand power pack that can start an engine up to 2l. I made sure it's charged and I know how to connect the cables. 70Euro investment for my own peace of mind! And this power pack has an USB-A port that can even charge my laptop or a Nintendo Switch (I test that!) so it can play a different role during some theoretical emergency.

3rd service at the beginning of this month. The exact same day I order it 3 years ago. Done nearly 15k km in the past 10 months and this will continue from now on. This was the last service free of charge. Next time I'll need to pay.
Nothing significant - I'll have to change front tires in the next few months. I'll buy something else. Primacy 3 are not good enough for this car. When starting from still, it tends to loose grip if there's a bit of dust or mud on the roads. Can't say I had problems breaking or loose traction while driving. Just when moving the car from a traffic light or parking. Annoying enough but we both learn to control it. Still, I'll go for a different model.
Fuel consumption decreased quite a lot thanks to almost no short trips. Past 2 tanks average was 5.1l/100km.
I believe I start to understand the need for wireless Android Auto! If only to get rid of those stupid USB-A to USB-C cables! Eventually every cable decides to break. When you need navigation it the most! I always carry a spare cable, but it's still annoying. Wireless charging plus wireless AA would be a much happier combination! Although that will enable those people to check their f..g phone while driving! (we all seen them everywhere, including on motorways)

I was approached few times by the dealer and Toyota Ireland maybe I want to trade this car for a new one. Nope, I don't! It's too good and there's nothing tempting to any other specs! What was interesting...they could deliver me a new GR Sport as early as January. And they had 3 different colors I could choose from.
But no, thanks! I'm more than happy with this one.

My Orange got to 52k km!
This mild'ish weather with long drives puts the fuel consumption at ~5. In Dec and Jan when we have few cold spells, it never went above 5.2l/100km. I'm filling mostly from Maxol, standard E5 petrol they seel in Ireland. I tried again the premium petrol they sell...boy more snappy but consumption increases even with fairly long drives.
Can't seem to fix that small rattling on air grill. Toyota fix it in November, it lasted a couple of months. Now it changed the frequency. Back to a visit next week.
I changed the front tires. The other 2 have plenty of meat, it will carry another at least 15k. I chose Michelin CrossClimate SUV. Not cheap but nothing to break the piggy bank. Neither the old ones were not noisy, but it's a pleasant surprise those are slightly more quiet.

It came to my mind to re-purpose a Dyson I'm no longer using (thank you Roborock!) to give the car a clean. Old vacuum cleaner was seating in the shed for many years - I don't know why I didn't give it away long ago.
It took me about 20 minutes to take out a Peppa Pig puzzle piece off the vacuum cleaner hose (no Boris J, Peppa Pig is not perfect world :) ).
Most times I'm cleaning the car with a battery powered Dyson and it does a more than decent job. It's small and easy to use in a car. Turbo mode is really good for the car, but it eats battery way too fast.
But it can't match a proper vacuum cleaner!
Not more than 1/4 of the bin tank filled. But 80% of the tank was nothing but dust! I'll repeat this task every month! Worth investing 1h!
Several times I bought inside cleaning when I have the time to go to a proper car cleaning shop. Clearly my vacuum cleaner is much better than theirs - judging by the amount of dust.

Yep I Shark ours every so often, I don't eat in the car but my wife let the grandchildren eat something with Sprinkles and it was all over. The Excel has perforation on Leather seats Shark wouldn't get them had pick out each tiny part with a cocktail stick to get them out. Erm I wasn't best pleased I can tell you. Oh glitter from grand daughter's dancing exam was another whole experience,so goes the world.hope all on the forum are well

#48 ·
Yeah, eating in the car is a battle I'm not even fighting! I'm not driving that often, so there you go...
Orange also have perforated leather seats so I totally hear you on this one!

I have an idea for future cars!
Flat floor - that's granted for electric cars.
A small ramp so all the crap on the floor will go on the side where kids are seating.

The way cars are build today, all crap ends up under the front seats. Oh joy!

#49 ·
I think you'll kno what a Squish,em. It's a soft horrible thing that comes in many guises all shapes all the grandkids have them. Xmas time dropped some coins out of my pockets, reached under the seat and felt this cold wet sticky thing gave me quite a turn I can tell you.
Turned out to be thing with ears on nasty, I recycled it permanently.

A bit of a soap opera with booking the car for 15k service.
I never had any problem booking the car within 1-2 weeks. More often than not I was the one asking for a late booking.
This time...surprise! I was given in February a slot in April! After a bit of talking to the friends I was booked for 21 March. A bit more insistence: 14.

The other day I got a call they can see my car this week. Apparently some recalls are halted due to lack of chipsets and suddenly there's a window.
I will be able to service the car this Friday, without me exceeding the 15k km.

I would love to understand how come recall/chipsets is something that critical they were unable to run normal maintenance. Granted, world of cars changed...but recall requiring a chipset sounds so weird to me!

#53 ·
I didn't had time to chat, so I have no clue what recall involving new chipset was/is.
Service done fast, as usual. No problems. Annoying: all roads were full of salt Friday morning so car on Friday was "white".
Didn't go for a wash, no washing stations close enough for the car not to get white in no time. Saturday is pouring rain so all salt washed away.

What I noticed: not a single car in showroom, all highest spec available, had JBL audio. All of them had basic audio. Sales people were like "well...it's a bad situation, lately not even chipsets for keys are not available".

ust purchased my orange edition, collect some time this week, hopefully turns out to be a good investment.

I'm thinking of getting a dashcam installed buy slightly concerned, I've heard the 12v batteries on these cars are sub par and dont want to end up stranded or waiting for recovery.

Also can anyone advise if its worth getting the Toyota service plan? From what I can see minor service costs £230 and major service £350? Toyota want over £30 month for service plan, surely works out cheaper if I just pay myself for annual service?

My service plan with Toyota is £26.88 / month but was set up a couple of months after I had the car, but total cost was the same as 2x minor & 1 major plus the first MOT.

Made sense to me as planning on keeping the car for at least 3 years so it locked the current prices in. Can’t see costs getting cheaper in coming years, so seems logical

#55 · (Edited)
I have an always on camera. I configured it to shut itself down when voltage drops below a certain value.
I did run out of 12V battery once, but I couldn't blame the camera.

Friday it was the first time I had to pay for service. First 3 were free of charge when I bought the car.
And I'm considering "Serviceplan from Toyota" as it's called here in Ireland. Likely this week I'll sign that contract.
