CHR Hybrid - Engine, Brake, Precollision, Hybrid system failure

Post by Lewis94 » Sat Sep 07, 2019 1:24 pm

Good Afternoon All,

I am wondering if anyone has any advice as to the following problem.

Last night my CHR Hybrid 1.8 suddenly had a rattle in the engine bay, dropped to a crawl at no more than 20mph and told me to pull over, which I did.

First the engine warning light came on saying visit your dealer, then the braking power low warning came up, then the pr-collision malfunction warning light came on. Called the recovery who came out. As he pressed the start button to put it in neutral to roll it on to the loader a warning then came up saying Hybrid system failure.

The car will not start at all and only the warning lights come on. I've visually checked all of the fluids and they seem fine. Cleaned all the external sensors.

The car was new in March 2019 and has less than 5000 miles on it.

Any thoughts ?

Wait... Had a rattle in the engine bay and you're checking fluids and external sensors? What about some connectors in the engine bay or even some lose parts?

As I'm not a qualified mechanic and the items such as brake low and pre collision failure could relate to the sensors or fluid level, so I was told, then this is my limitation of checking, but thanks for clarifying I have little knowledge of moving car parts or components

Well that's pretty poor, he should have least disconnected battery left it a few minutes then reconnectede and tried to jump start it.

We find with hybrids breakdown companies don't like to to touch any electrical systems (which is a good thing)

We've had one or 2 Prius's in that have attempted to be jump started incorrectly with disastrous consequences

No. It might start and drive again after a hard reset but the actual problem is not solved.
Now the dealer can read the data and fault codes to see whats happend.

As the car is only 6months old would anyone hazard a guess what could actually be wrong with the faults it is showing?

Someone else with a CHR Hybrid had a similar problem but just turned out to be a faulty petrol cap
