To clarify the operation of the feature. When you have Brake Hold on it does not engage every time you brake. When you come to a stop you lift your foot off the brake and then tap the foot brake again for it to engage and illuminate the amber hold icon on the middle display.

That may be how it works on your car but on mine if you have switched on the brake hold (via button centre console) then whenever you come to a complete stop the brakes (automatically) stay on after you lift your foot off the brake pedal. As soon as you touch the accelerator the brakes are released. I can tell it is applying the front disc brakes as you can hear them bind as they are released.
The benefit of this is that you can take your foot off the brake when stationary (reducing the glare on the car behind) and there is no danger of creeping accidentally.
All the best

Not aware of any model requiring you to lift your foot off and press it again?
If yours is doing this then that seems very strange. You only need to come to a complete stop for the HOLD brake to engage if turned on.

Well thats how it works in my 1.2 Petrol Manual. The operation in the Hydrid which is CVT only must be different. Perhaps someone with a manual gearbox can confirm. Drive along, come to a complete smooth stop with the footbrake and see if the amber hold icon engages without pressing the footbrake again. Obviously having the green hold icon already glowing after enaging the button by the gear stick previously. The majority of forum members seem to have the CVT gearbox so forget about us manual gearbox owners.

...and that is what the manual says it should do - for all models. (p241)

It depends on how I use my brake. If I brake till I really stop and then keep the brake on for a while longer the amber light go,s on.
If I brake till stop and release the brake immediately the CHR drive forward and then I brake again and the amber light goes on.
So I think the computer needs some time to realise to brake hold.

Yes I have noticed that effect too. It does take a moment to register that you have stopped. That might be what DuncanM has experienced without realising exactly what is happening.

When I use brake hold, I've noticed that it engages by pressing the brake pedal a little harder after you've stopped. No need to release it and press it again though.

I do miss having a sport button though, that and a volume control knob that turns, rather than up and down buttons.

An sport button like the Prius should be nice. I prefer the up and down volume button on the steering wheel instead of a turning knob.
