Why so expensive in the U.K.?

Post by mbell » Tue Sep 29, 2020 2:01 am

My CHR cost the best part of £30K. Why is it that a very similar model in US Toyota dealerships can be had for ten grand less?

We must be mugs in rip-off Britain.

Have some fun, check the price of a new, well equipped Corvette in the USA, then compare to what we pay for an identical car. Same for a Ford Mustang. And lets not forget the massive difference in fuel price. I do suspect we do pay quite a lot more VAT/tax/... than in the US of A

True! At best in US they are paying 7.x% sales taxes. So here's at least 15% difference from average VAT in Europe.
Plus, US is a huge market for every single car manufacturer. Just look at similar specs and you'll notice significant differences in price and specs for the same model for US market. C-HR is an outlier here, our specs are better and we have hybrid while they don't have it. But, at the same time, maybe 2-3 people in the entire Europe (similar population) would buy a Ford F series.

All prices in US are listed without taxes. And these depend on a state where you're buying. So might not be such a difference in final price.
