Keeping the plastic trim looking nice!

Post by kelvin66 » Thu Jun 27, 2019 6:53 pm

My car is 9 months old and the plastic trim was looking a little grey and blotchy, so I looked around at available cleaning products. Eventually I stumbled upon this product that is really easy to use. Just spray it on the plastic parts and wipe of with a cloth. I went around the car and applied 2 coats and the trim looks so much better; black and shiny. The product is clear and is easily wiped of of the paintwork if over sprayed.

I've no idea how long it will last but it was so easy to use, and cheap, that I will probably use it every time I wash the car...

I had tried "back to black" on a small area but found that it was too black and hard to get a consistent colour. I had considered Megulars but decided to keep that product for when/if things get really bad. I do like the fact it offers UV protection though so I will get some and give it a try...

Like I said before, the Wilkinsons clear spray darkens the grey plastic (yes its dark grey and not black) and takes only few minutes to appy..

Correction, I haven't tried "back to black", I tried "Carplan Black Trim Wax". Very messy to use...

The Meguiars Ultimate is a trim restorer. Same as the Solution Finish what i use for my trim. Both great products!
Works even better when you first clean all trim with a degreaser. Then apply the restorer with foampad and at last wipe the trim with a microfiber towel.

Which degreaser do you use?

Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner (APC) but any household degreaser works also fine.
Spray on, rub with (soft) dishbrush or a white ´wondersponge´ and rinse off. When its dry (next day) use the trim restorer.

FYI - Halfords have got Meguiar's® Ultimate Black restorer on offer at £9.73, so I bought some to try mainly for its UV protection. It's easy to apply, looks black and smells nice, a bit like suntan lotion. I'll see how long it actually lasts...
