UK Recall - No Thanks - Parking Brake Switch Cover

Post by dabar » Wed Oct 11, 2017 3:34 pm

Luckily for me I managed to dodge the Fuel Tank recall.

But upon checking today I have a "We have identified that your Toyota is subject to a voluntary customer service campaign or outstanding safety recall."

Phoned Toyota direct - (didn't bother with my dealers as I knew the response would be we know nothing about it let us make some phone calls)

Apparently I need the "Stupidity Cover" sorry the parking brake switch cover and a label advising me of the dangers of said button - as discussed in this thread relating to Japanese C-HRs

I politely declined the recall and will make sure it is not fitted when it goes in for a service. :D

I had my C-HR in for it's first service today in Ireland...have to go in before 15000 km to get free service. But they briefly mentioned that button thing and low & behold it's on there now. Makes no difference as I don't use the parking brake, just have it on auto.

But you shouldn't use parking brake in winter when its -10 deg. Celsius or lower, should you? I think I've read in manual it can freeze.

Yes but what to do then. Normaly you put the gear in first but that is not possible.
So if you are on a slide sloop you have to use some block or park with the wheel against the curb.

Park the vehicle and shift the shift lever to P and block the wheel
under the vehicle without setting the parking brake. The parking
brake may freeze up, preventing it from being released. If the vehicle
is parked without setting the parking brake, make sure to block
the wheels. Failure to do so may be dangerous because it may
cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly, possibly leading to an
accident.

You just leave it in P? I mean not "Hand" brake, but actually Parking mode :)

I assume that this is the same as the issue I raised three weeks ago - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1157

Yes but it is not advised to use the parking mode when it is freezing ( The parking
brake may freeze up, preventing it from being release).
So if you are on a light sloop you have to block one of the wheels or park it against the curb if possible.
So I should buy myself a small block. The winters are mild these day,s but you never know.

I suppose Parking mode and Parking brake are two different things. You can't park without a Parking mode, but you can without a Parking brake
