I ask this because I took my car down to my local tyre centre who always swapped my spare set of RAV4 wheels with winters fitted around this time of year. The 12 Yr old RAV has now gone but the wheels fit the CHR. He tried one wheel on just to make sure but when he went for his hand held device that reads the TPMS signal in the CHR wheel and then programs the new TPMS valves which are about £180 - no signal found as his device and undoubtedly many others wasn't able to detect it on this new model. He looked at the codes available on it and no CHR so couldn't do it if I bought the valves.
I went to MrT where I bought the car and they said they don't have that device as they put in new valves in the winters and program the car to take them - thus accepting two sets of wheels. The problem was that they charge £360 for this.
I am going to try other places to see if they can detect the signal - in MHz I believe.
The obvious question here is does anyone actually know for a fact what happens if I put the set of winter wheels on without TPMS. I can live with a small orange light but would be concerned about other actions such as continual beeping or even limp mode.
I appreciate that it may be a few weeks early for most to be swapping but someone may know the answer.
Thanks.
