I've now had my C-HR for just over a year and it went in for it's annual service last week.

At that time I asked for them to rotate the wheels (as per the manual) but they said they were unable to do so due to the tyre pressure sensors.

If so why put it in the sodding manual?

Also they advised there were no software updates, only for Nav, which I don't have in my base model

I switch every winter/summer season from rotation.. so all tires wear evenly.

As already said, it have nothing to do with sensors. Its not recorded where sensors are.

Also, when the light of "low pressure tire" will lit up, its up to you to see which one is low.
The dealer can maybe see which one is causing the light.. but there is nowhere recorded where that sensor is located.
