Does anyone have experience with the special ProTect coating/finish done by Toyota. Does this really work? We are getting this coating applied when we pick up the car at the dealer for the exterior and rims. But I'm curious to know if many other owners have also done this. How has your experience been? Does it really help keep the car clean?

Toyota offers here in The Netherlands the ProTect coating:
  • Exterior of the car: € 305,98
    Exterior and rims: €385,58
    Interior: €104,28

Advantages:
  • Long term use of your Toyota
Protection for exterior, interior and rims
    Gives showroom finish
No wax or polish needed after washing the car
Dirt, rain, insects does not stick or leave residue to the car
    5 year warranty

Oops just read your post properly. It will help keep it clean but if not done properly can make the paint look flat (not as shiney)

I got also the Waxoil treatment out. Its in ´dealerpackage´ and saved me half the money!
Even on a Dutch car detailing forum they tested it and named the waxoil worthless. And way too expensive.

When i get my car i wil put Collinite 845 or Poorboys EXP on it by hand.. that way everything will be waxed and it will last longer.

For the Dutch members, read and see the Waxoyl test :

Teleurstellend, maar niet onverwacht! WaxOyl is helaas meer een marketingtruuk dan dat het daadwerkelijk een pantser is. Het lijkt een doodgewone paintsealant te zijn (synthetische wax) die qua duurzaamheid het af heeft moeten leggen tegenover de paint sealant (EX-P) van het merk Poorboy's World. De dealer koopt een zakje in voor een paar tientjes en verkoopt het voor een veelvoud. Een cash-cow dus.

Merly werly avert your eyes from this reply!
I shouldn't own up to this but next week my car is 3 months old and it has not been cleaned apart from debugging the flies on the front bumper,my postman was having a chat last week about the C-hr as he is thinking of getting one and said it was nice that I kept this car clean unlike the last one!
The supagard(I assume same as your protect) treatment was include foc and it seems to wash off the dirt when it rains.
It might help that my car is pearl white(although those flies really show up).
I know a lot of forum users are up on the detailing aspect and will be able to give you good advice.
Enjoy your new car.

I am getting my CH-R a nice cereamic coating and Exo water repellent coating for €300 from Gtechniq dealer here in cyprus.

Excellent stuff and protects paint against scratches and UV. Helps the water run off to.
I'm doing the interior myself and ordered the stuff from Gtechniq UK website.
Great website with lots of how to videos.

Sounds good! Thanks for the information. We have also chosen a Pearl White, so I am really worried about the damn flies. We store our car in a parking garage, so it will not get a lot of rain, UV and dirt, but I'm still worried about the disadvantages of having a white car. Hence the reason we decided to try something like the ProTect coating to help us out.

Your car looks amazingly clean btw! :D

Ceramic coatings are nice, last long but are also expensive. It can never prevent your car from becoming dirty..
Finally its also a layer on your paint that only holds a bit longer as a good synthetic wax.

A coating or wax that bounce back the flies dont exist..

Thanks,It does look clean in the pics but close up you can see the dirt, mainly on the black plastic parts but overal I am very pleased with the pearl white.(if only bugs were white it would be perfect,as I've debugged the front of the car every week!)

I paid £200 (€228) for a Gtechniq treatment which involved

Wash
Ferrous remover
Wash
Claybar
Wash
Machine polish
Gtechniq treatment
Cure for 24hrs
Hand finish

The gtechniq glass treatment I did myself and cost £15/€17

The local hand car wash are most miffed as instead of paying £9, I pay £5 for the wash without the dry/finish :D :)

You got a good deal there. Was looking at prices in UK as I come back soon but coating plus Exo worked out more expensive so getting it done out here. Warranty is valid in UK as well.

No Idea where your 'here' is since you don't say :?:

Was a young guy who only set his company up last year, he had the car for 2 days, worked out half the price of getting dealer to do...which I would never do....for three reasons

1) They try to everything in 1 day which is not possible
2) They pay an external company to do the work...so they never meet you 'the customer' which is vital
3) Every owner I've met that's had paint protection by a dealer has resulted in scratches... in one case 43!

Apologies I'm in Cyprus. I'm getting mine done by an independent detailer.
Such a good product and better than waxing and lasts a long time 3-5yrs as well.
