TMC Alerts - or more lack of..

I'm not sure what's happening with my car settings but I cant seem to get traffic alerts to come through. When I collected the car 2 weeks ago they said they'd set it but nothing happened. I've since been through all the menus for the various sound options and ticked anything and everything I can find relating to TMC.

Earlier this week I went back to the main traffic menu and unticked/reticked the TMC option and next day I got 2 alerts. Hurrah! Next day, back to nothing. Now I know there's alerts during my daily commute because I always got 3 to 4 during my journeys previous, but baffled as to why I don't receive in the C-hr.

I normally have my ipod connected, but tried Dab and also fm for journeys to see but apart from 1 day nothing?

Make sure the engine is running so that an settings are stored or they will reset to off by default.
Strange, but I get Traffic Announcements on everything except DAB, even though the TA button is checked under DAB settings. I looked on the internet and some cars seem to get it and some don't. Had a BMW before and TA always worked on DAB. Anyone get TA when using DAB
I haven't tried DAB but using FM radio I only seem to get traffic announcements from the radio station that I was listening to prior to switching to iPod/USB.

So for example, I tune the radio to BBC Radio Suffolk and then switch to iPod and will only get interrupted for traffic announcements from Radio Suffolk. So when I leave the Suffolk area I no longer get any traffic announcements. I have tried changing the "Alternative Frequency" and "Regionalisation" settings but makes no difference.

In my previous car (Toyota) I could set the FM radio to a national BBC station (e.g. BBC Radio 2) switch to iPod and would then receive announcements from every BBC local station whose area I passed through.

I wondered if it was the software version as I was running on V6.8.1 so I have upgraded today (6.8.2) to see if that fixes the issue.
thanks guys, this is interesting and at least confirms its not me doing something silly. the one day I got announcements was though DAB!

Jarrod55, "driving through Suffolk", that's same as me. Suffolk and Essex each day.

...... I do Bucks, Herts, Essex, Suffolk (and then the return journey) once a week.

In the absence of any traffic announcements I have found that the SatNav's traffic warning system is quite good for notifying me of any delays. As I know the route like the back of my hand I wouldn't normally bother using SatNav but have found that by entering my route, it will notify me of delays so that I can take avoiding action. It would still be good to get the radio announcements working though.

I'll let you know if the upgrade makes any difference.
update on this subject. I managed to get tmc daily but only from 1 station, which was the one the fm was tuned to, so changed to a different station and now only get them from there! fine for a normal commute but when you go afar and said station is out of range.

Frustrating to say the least.

I read in the RDS-TMC section

RDS-TMC is available in the UK, transmitted by Classic FM
Are you tuning in on Classic FM.
Normal it has to be automatic and if the radio station is availble in the area where you drive then it must pick up
the signal.
thanks Holyhead i'll give that a try. I recall seeing classic fm in one of the settings but that was at a time when nothing happened. perhaps it was the DAB setting rather than fm.
Same problem for me. I have done all that has been suggested but I get no traffic updates from any of the three or four BBC local radio areas I used to hear regularly in the previous Touch & Go systems I have used previously.

At least I'm not the only one having this problem!

In my previous car I would get numerous TMC alerts from a number of variety of FM radio stations, whether I was listening to FM, DAB or music from SD card.

While driving the C-HR for a couple of hours today and listening to music from USB, I didn't get any TMC alerts (I would normally expect half a dozen in that period). When I then switched to BBC Radio 4 on FM, I did get one TMC alert from BBC radio Solent but, after I switched back to USB, I didn't get any more alerts for the remaining 1 hour of my trip. Prior to today my C-HR has received an occasional alert while listening to USB, but only if I had switched to FM for a time during the trip.

This seems a very strange system, far less effective than any other that I have used.
I have never received a TMC alert! Mostly on DAB but have deliberately been on FM for the past week -nothing. I've checked my settings. I've sort of given up until I go for my first service
just incase something has been over looked , i also have never heard any tmc alerts

TA is Traffic Announcement ie traffic information in your local area. This is either verbally broadcast by your local station or is broadcast by the BBC's radio networks via the RDS-EON function.
TMC is Traffic Messaging Chanel. This is a data stream transmitted via a carrier wave via Classic FM. This service is used by your sat nav to alert you of roadworks, accidents, slow traffic, weather alerts, etc when you have planned a route.
Seems some people are speaking cross purposes.

You may be right. However, I have for the first time received a TA, which after 9 months is amazing, and I don't know why.

It is strange sometimes I get TA when listening to FM radio and sometimes while listening to USB, never while listening to DAB. There doesn't seem to be any reason why sometimes it works on FM and USB and sometimes it doesn't. Apart from changing mode and station or selecting tracks on the USB I don't touch any other settings. Can't understand it
I have had it confirmed by Toyota customer services that Traffic assist broadcasts are not supported when listening to DAB, which is somewhat of an oversight in the radio design as other manufacturers seem to have a design which works across all radio and media devices for several years now. The whole radio design is lacking with not only lack of TA on DAB radio but poor sensitivity partly due I suspect to embedded aerial in windscreen above driver (RHD). In hindsight instead of shark fin aerial a short whip design might improve reception. I have mine set not to switch to FM when DAB signal strength poor but this does mean that when going under some bridges and at margins of DAB reception the audio level falls considerably but that the trade off I have accepted to stop it from switching between DAB and FM in poor reception areas.
