Heads up - there is a map update available today for the Smart Connect systems to download from the Toyota E store on line & its FOC.

You need to sign in to your My Toyota account via a PC browser then go to the E store - your looking for Toyota Smart Connect Plus Map Update Autumn 2022.

You also need 2 x pieces of information from your vehicle before you can download the update.

You need your Map Service Code which is found by going to Navigation> Map Update> Map Data.

You also need your Map Update ID which is found by going to Navigation> Map Update> Map Data Info.

You have to fill in your details but at checkout its £0.00

Its just under 21GB download zipped file size.

You need a USB stick of 32 GB size formatted to FAT32 to extract it to & transfer it to the car.

There are installation instructions on how to set up your USB stick but you need to scroll down to look at the MM21 ones which are for Smart Connect.

Make a note of your licence key shown on your PC screen as you will need to input in on the touch screen.

Here's an update on my map update problem. Took the car to the dealer they said map update has been corrupted, they had to get a USB from Toyota with a new Map, it took a week to arrive, took the car back to have it installed. They couldn't install it system still corrupt. They spoke to Toyota who have given them a file to download then test on one of their cars to make sure it works OK before downloading it to my car. Now waiting for dealer to come back to me with an update.
Just collected new CHR GS Sport.
As the map version appeared to be April 2022 I tried the Map Update on the Navigation screen but received the message "Contact your dealer".
Contacted the dealer who said the reason for this message is that there are no new updates. 1 year and no updates?
Has there been a new version since April 2022?
PS: thank you for the update USB information.
Autumn 2022 is the current latest base map update as shown on first page of this thread.

The map download to a USB stick is done via a PC with you signed in to your My T account - you cannot update the base maps over the air as its approximately 21GB to download.

A lot of Toyota / Lexus dealers don't understand the base mapping update procedure of these Smart Connect units.
If you log in to Mytoyota on a pc and go to e-store you will see the download, it’s free but you have to add it to your basket etc
Map Update Smart Connect Plus - lots of confusion.
When trying to update the map, with and without the USB map download I get the message "Problem with map update please contact your Dealer". The dealer states that this message means there is no update available, My current map version is April 2022. There is a new version August 2022. So what does this message really mean?
Try a different USB stick. Make sure it's formatted FAT32.

Thank you for the reply. Tried 2 USB sticks, fully formatted, extracted and fully extracted, and the same sticks we used successfully on the previous CHR (albeit with the Touch and Go): same error message.
Have you downloaded & then extracted the map update file to your computer?

You using Windows OR Apple device?

Windows 11 PC. As with previous CHR (which worked OK) - downloaded, extracted and copied to USB3 fully formatted FAT32. Whatever I do I get the message "Problem with map update please contact your Dealer". The Dealer says this is because I have the latest map installed - April 2022.

Problem with map update please contact your Dealer is the default response when the system cannot see the update on the USB stick.

How is your USB stick file structure set out?
Here's mine below & the update worked perfectly.

Hi Forkingabout1978 did you use it as in the top pic with just the MAPUPDATE showing or did you use it as in the 2nd pic with the folder expanded

Top picture is how the stick should look when you connect it to a PC.

If you then expand the file structure tree out it will end up looking like the 2nd picture.

I named this USB stick UPDATE ( I have many USB memory sticks )

If you prepare your USB stick correctly the update should work when connected to the vehicle USB port.

Make sure you have your licence key ready as the vehicle will prompt for it.

Done: Thank you for assistance.
The only contribution I can make is that the original download file must be extracted directly to the USB.

My dealer isFitting a new multimedia unit (under warranty) to my car on Monday because the existing unit is corrupt.

I thought it would be helpful to share my experience having finally, successfully, installed this update. Many thanks to forkingabout as I would not have persevered without their input.

I successfully downloaded the update from the Toyota e-store but then hit a brick wall with this error message from the media unit of my 2022 Design spec C-HR:

After much experimentation with various USB drives, formats and file structures, you will get the above message if the USB drive is not correctly formatted with the correct file structure upon it. As always with information technology, the devil is in the detail.
My problem was how I had formatted the USB drive. It was formatted to FAT32 as per both Toyota's instructions and forkingabout's experience, but for me I found a wrinkle, which when changed, allowed the update to take place successfully.
Look at this pic of the Toyota guidance:
Font Screenshot Parallel Software Web page

The Toyota guidance picture shows a 16GB USB Drive whilst the text talks about a 32GB USB drive. A mis-match there, which for me appeared to be the root cause of my problem. You need to use a 32Gb drive. However Windows created an issue for me here. When I formatted my 32Gb drive to FAT32 with the defaults my update attempt continually failed. I then retraced all my steps and noticed the following.
When I formatted my 32Gb drive, Windows FAT32 used a default file allocation size of 16 kilobytes. (Checking on Microsoft support site, 16K is the default for 32-64Gb drives). As you can see this is different to the Toyota guidance shown above uses a file allocation size of 8192 bytes (Microsoft default for 16Gb drives).
When I changed the format file allocation size to 8192 bytes, formatted my 32Gb USB stick, loaded the update files on to the drive, car recognised the USB drive and file update. 30 mins later. Ta Dah!

I don't know whether this is a peculiar to me, the usb sticks I was using or my car.
Apologies for the long post but It might help someone else - so do post if it does help you.

That is indeed a great finding! It's priceless you nail it down file allocation size!
Because several such dumb systems are flying around I'm using a slightly different logic.
1. What is the size of the file(s) I need to write on USB stick? xyz MB/GB.
2. Create a partition just a bit bigger than that size. Format it as FAT32.
3. Copy the files.
4. Done with the upgrade.

I had a 16G one and that worked every single time. But I lost it, I'm sure it's somewhere in the house, but it was a small one and hard to find.
The large ones I have (256G and 512G)...every single OS will format it in its way and more than likely it will not work.
So a small partition is my workaround.

Ah, and every now and then a full format is needed. They do tend to go busted and quick format will not help. It takes time, but it saves headache.
I have now had a new unit fitted under warranty, every is working as it should except for the map update, the dealer was able to download the latest map update but was unable to load it onto the car. They are going to talk to Toyota about it.
Good post! Currently preparing update sticks for my C-HR and for the Corolla. So lets test these settings.
Both are Kingston DT50 32GB sticks, formatted FAT32 and in 8192byte.
To be continued..
They are going to talk to Toyota about it.
Good luck with that one, I raised something directly with Toyota on the 24th of last month which is still being looked in to 🤣
...

When I changed the format file allocation size to 8192 bytes, formatted my 32Gb USB stick, loaded the update files on to the drive, car recognised the USB drive and file update. 30 mins later. Ta Dah!
Tested on both types of Touch2 and works like a charm!
