Does anyone know how to mute the music without coming out of the menu?

I haven't tried this but the manual says, see below

"MODE" switch
Some parts of the audio system can be adjusted with the switches on the steering
wheel.
"MODE" switch
Mode Operation Function
Press and hold Mute/Pause"

Thanks, it had been bugging me
I find pressing and holding the mode button switches the audio on or off rather than muting. Perhaps the same thing in practice.
Update on this - if you press and hold the mode button, the banner saying audio off comes up, but if you have the radio screen showing at the time then it stays there. Also if you then switch the car off and back on again the radio comes back on. So it is much more like muting than turning off (even though it says it is turning off the audio)
If I have my mobile phone connected via bluetooth and have pressed the MODE button to exit the radio, will I still be able to hear the incoming phone call alerts?

same here, couldn’t find this mute function, thanks alot!
If your phone is connected to multimedia system, a call will pause the music or radio. This always works on my 2018 chr (the one without Android auto) and it works on my 2020 chr (the one with Android auto).
If you have another phone connected and you want quickly to turn the music off, press the volume button. A quick press is all it takes to mute the music.
