Something I have been meaning to do for a while now is to remove that lump of polystyrene that fills the boot. It is held in place with a big (cheap looking) plastic screw in the middle.

I was a bit concerned about the strength of the boot cover but it seems reasonably well supported for everyday use and the well underneath can take quite a few bits of "essential rubbish" that have to be carried around leaving the boot free of clutter.

Wouldn't this just make you car really noisy going at high speeds, if not at lower speeds once removed? Wouldn't it be better to hotwire cut (or just cut) pockets into the polystyrene for those pesky items?
