I've been monitoring my mpg lately and come across this that I cannot work out.

I reset my trip meter A when my miles left in tank reading dropped down a mile so there in theory in sync.

I then drove 11.3 miles to work yet my miles left in tank went down 17 miles and I was averaging 80.5mpg.

How does that work out?

If the last trip before the reset was greater/higher than 80.5mpg then the range will drop as will the average.
