I finally got round to retrofitting a heated steering wheel as annoyingly its the only bit of equipment the 1st gen GR Sport in the UK missed out on.
First check that the dash wiring is there - pop the switch blank out ( check the owners manual for correct location as it differs in the dash between RHD & LHD vehicles ) & see if the connector plug is clipped to the back of it.
You can also pop the steering column plastic trims off after removing the retaining screws to check if the extra blue connector plug is taped up not connected to anything.
If the wiring is there then you would need the following 4 components: A heated steering wheel switch, the heated steering wheel relay, the ribbon cable / rotary unit with the extra cable with blue plug on & you need a heated steering wheel - these have a cable at the bottom a white plug see picture below showing both.
I did ask how much a new heated GR Sport steering wheel was as a spare part & at the time it was ÂŁ1.4k so I got a good used heated C-HR wheel elsewhere &
I had the heated steering wheel retrimmed to match the original GR Sport wheel by Royal Steering Wheels | Exclusive look, unique feeling
All you need to do is add the switch, add the relay ( located behind dash above the centre console & below the climate control panel, pop the dash trim off to access it ) - switch the ignition ON then activate the switch on & off while you hold a finger on the top of the relay & you should feel the relay clicking.
Once the switch & relay is installed then its basically remove steering wheel, remove rotary unit & replace the components then plug in that extra blue connector plug on the vehicle loom that was taped up doing nothing.
I wont do a more depth how to as if your not skilled dealing with airbags, rotary units ( how to centre them correctly especially ) & how to a remove / refit a steering wheel safely you risk causing damage or worse an injury.
The switch & relay is basic DIY but unless your mechanically skilled with experience I'd find a competent mechanic to swop the rotary unit & steering wheel over.
