use your phone as a hotspot so the C-HR can connect to the internet through your phone

The charge is whatever your data rate is from your provider. So if you have a data allowance on your plan then you will use that.
If not then depending on your supplier you will either pay a flat rate per mb/gb or some even charge a daily rate.
Check your price plan and included allowances.

Luckily I work for a Telecomms firm so I get 25GB each month.

I can attest that StreetView is amazing lol :)
Also you could connect to your home Wi-Fi on the phone and share it via Bluetooth if your phone supports that. I hope C-HR can do that :)

The car just connects to your phone as usual using the Bluetooth hotspot.
The catch will be if your phone supports multiple data connections. Some phones only allow you to use phone data to share as a hotspot.
So that will all boil down to your phone and the software it uses.
That's why I added "if your phone supports that" :) Just tested with some Android phones (Nexus 5 and Nexus 6P) - turned on internet sharing via BT on Nexus 5 and Nexus 6P could connect to internet just using Bluetooth. Wanted to do the same with iPhone, but it appears it can't do that :)

Sorry I thought we were discussing Wifi on this part.
All phones allow internet usage via Bluetooth tethering however some don't allow you to use Wifi data to supply the internet Bluetooth hotspot you are using to connect to the car. It therefore only allows direct Mobile phone data connection to be used using your allowance if you have any.

Super simple test. Turn Cellular/Network data off on your handset.
Connect to your home Wifi.
Enable Bluetooth Hotspot and connect your car.
Test!

My OnePlus 3 and Nokia Lumia allow Wifi as the incoming data source. Iphones are a bit more locked down I think but it's a long time since I had one.
Yes. iPhone allows only mobile data to be shared and Android can also share Wi-Fi

You do not need to do it via your phone - you can connect direct to your home wi-fi (obviously only when in range)

I've read manual on January so can't remember now - does C-HR have a Wi-Fi connection? If so, then sure it can connect directly :) And it would be much faster I believe
I can share internet via Bluetooth but i have no option for wi-fi connection to the car. I saw this setting in the manual but I don't have it. And I bought my car with voice recognition (touch & go 2 PLUS ???) witch I paid extra for.
Is wi-fi connection available to you?
The car doesn't have a WiFi access point, so you can't connect phones, laptops, tablets etc. to your car.
However the car supports a WiFi connection, so you can connect your car to a WiFi access point. I've connected mine to my home and work WiFI networks. So I can upload "routes" planned on the customer portal or locations on Google maps to my car. You can also use the apps and upload (and download) your cars settings to Toyota.
use your phone as a mobile hots spot and your good to go ,check here for manuals :http://www.chrforums.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=285
and here for phone compatibility: https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/vehicle-information/toyota-touch-2.json
but some of the information seems to have moved so you might have to dig around a bit
found it :https://www.toyota-europe.com/service-and-accessories/my-toyota/bluetooth-compatibility
I have Samsung Galaxy S6, in settings under Mobile Hotspot and Tethering turn on Mobile Hotspot and Bluetooth tethering, tap on set up tethering and the phone then gives a password to connect the car to the phones mobile internet via Wifi, Once you have entered the password in the car it can connect the car to the phones mobile internet. After that you only need to turn on Bluetooth tethering on the phone to connect to the internet.
You need to ensure your mobile plan allows tethering, (some of them don't ) Internet is now working well and to be honest doesn't seem to use a lot of my data allowance
Hope that helps
I have a Xiaomi Mi Mix with custom (Epic) rom. I'm experienced user, member of XDA forum since 2003. I can connect via Bluetooth Hotspot, stream music, download weather etc. Everything works fine. I have a 2GB per month plan.
I'm not talking about car wi-fi access point. I know I haven't.

My question was about car settings. I can't find wi-fi settings on my car. I saw it on the manual (C-HR_NAVI_Europe_OM10545E.pdf page 144) but my car doesn't seem to have it.
I want to connect my car and my Xiaomi via Wi-Fi tethering. Not bluetooth tethering.
Anybody done that?

Thank you for your responses.

What do you mean by "Wi-Fi tethering"? I don't think you can share Wi-Fi via Wi-Fi. You can share Mobile data or Wi-Fi via Bluetooth. Also you can share your mobile data via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. But not Wi-Fi via Wi-Fi.
I mean the second option.

Usb tethering -> Share internet data via USB cable.
Wi-Fi tethering -> makes phone an Access point (portable hotspot).
Bluetooth tethering -> Share internet data via Bluetooth.

When you turn this on, Wi-Fi is turned off and only mobile data sharing via this created Wi-Fi hotspot is enabled. At least on Android. I don't know how it's done on iOS.
