I selected this model Metal Stream 1.8 Hybrid with Premium pack would have gone for Dynamic but the birds round here pooping on that in seconds would ruin the finish for life.
Why would birds ruin the finish of the dynamic any more than the excel or icon? Is the black roof on the dynamic finished in something that can be more easily damaged? Interested to find out, as I have a bird problem where I live too.

If you went for Eclipse Black Dynamic Range the whole car is done in metalic paint whereas if you went for any other colour choice in the dynamic range the roof is not metalic paint just standard black, thats why I went fully colour coded Metal Stream as with solid black the birds poo would ruin standard black finish also I dont see why I should pay £1,500 for very little extra yes you get auto levelling lights and LED's but thats not worth the extra which makes no difference to me also I'm paying for the car outright so £1,500 less is always a good thing. :)
True. I'm struggling with £1500 for a black roof, slightly different alloys, and LED lights, which can come with their own issues. I'm also struggling with £1600 for the Premium pack, and think the half leather interior in the Excel is rather nice. Granted the JBL stereo is good, but with £1600 saved on the pack I think you could buy something equally as good off the shelf at Halfords, and a great deal cheaper. Thanks for the heads up on the black roof. I hadn't realised it was a standard non metallic black. That could easily become marked if the birds poo early morning, and it doesn't get noticed for a couple of hours. Still, with £1500 I could get the roof sprayed in a nice black metallic, and still have enough left over for a decent wheel upgrade!!
I was surpirsed myself and the dealer looked at the roof on a Dynamic Metal Stream and in full light on the roof there was no metalic flakes and as the Dynamic was the Flagship model in the range thought it was rather strange.
Raised concerns about the roof with the dealer, and this was their response:-
"The roof is solid black but that is no worse than metallic paint as all car paint is water based. The easy way to protect against bird droppings is to have Bodycare applied at a cost of £435 which protects the paint and has a lifetime guarantee"

Typical dealer trying to flog the bodycare Lifeshine package. Nothing you can't do yourself for a fraction of the cost, and probably a lot better job too. I did initially go with Metal Stream Dynamic, with front and rear under runs, and chrome side sills, but I am now thinking of changing to white pearl in either dynamic or excel, and just keeping the car white and black, with no silver or chrome plastic trim. Aside from the expense, I can't help thinking it looks great in just the two colours, without the added bling.
I prefer without the bling especially as it will get chipped and marked with the state of our roads, I would have like the C-HR Dynamic but when away for 2 weeks the birds will poo away and nothing I can do about it, current car and previous cars with all colour coded I had no bird dropping issues so thats why I always go fully colour coded, looked at the dealers car in the showroom and the demo and the swirl marks and imperfections were so noticeble I would be paranoid.
So even this early on the black roof was showing the swirl marks, and day to day wear and tear? If so, that really doesn't bode well for being parked out at the mercy of the elements, and those little feathered poo bags. Another thing, if you pay an extra £1500 to get the Dynamic, a good £1000 of that must be for the black roof. How the hell does painting a roof black cost £1000, and why should it be any more expensive for Toyota to do that than having it sprayed the same as the metallic body colour? I would have thought solid black paint was cheaper than metallic paint to start with.
Yes I'd agree the solid black roof cant cost £1,000 more, lso why put LED's on the oustide and not in the interior as those interior lights are just normal blubs, people may call that fussy but spending under 30k you'd expect a perfect example and to look good for as many years as possible, thats why I would have preferred a panoramic roof but due to the longevity Toyota want to keep for the C-HR it was not launch with it, heard many places stating that the Panoraimic/Sunroof should happen in the summer but we will see.

PS the Demo was washed and Registered the day before I test drove it as I was the first :)
Yes I noticed it had the same horrible interior lights as the Prius, and the usual cheap and nasty blue LED clock. I looked at the roof of the CHR, and it is such an odd shape that I honestly don't think they could get anything other than a very small sunroof in there. May be the way to go would be a static black glass roof with an electric blind, which allows more light into the car, and also gives you a black roof without the worry of paint deterioration. I notice on the Excel you lose the LED rear lights, which is a shame because they really look good. I think one of the first options Toyota might make available is the 2.0L petrol engine, because it probably wouldn't be that much less economic than the 1.2 turbo, adress the criticisms over lack of power, and cost the same to tax under the new road tax system
Anyway le789 goodluck with your choice of spec lokkign forward to seeing what you decide in the end. :D
I choose the blue color,, although it got 0 votes
When I saw blue in the brochure I didn't like it at all. However, dealer has their demonstrator in blue, and the car looked really stunning. It went from being a definite no no, to being a definite contender. Don't let the 0 votes bother you because the colour has to be seen on the car to be fully appreciated.
I was thinking of getting a White with Black Roof but now I'll wait until it's available in showrooms in Australia to see the difference in the solid/metallic finishes.

We have a yellow (Hornet Yellow) and bright green (Electric Teal) for our choices as well and also a white roof option for some colours.
I find it rather annoying that other countries have different choices, would have thought they'd make it standard in most cases across the board.
I'm surprised at this too. The C-HR needs brighter colours to match it's style.

How are the colour palettes for other cars in the UK? Most of the time here, there is one 'Hero' colour and the rest are standards.

It could be down to which factory they are produced in.
