Change headunit to get Android auto

Hi, hope everyone is doing well. This topic may have been discussed a few times but please bear with me.
I have been looking to change the headunit in my car from touch 2 with go to an aftermarket one. My intention was to retain the factory steering wheel controls and reversing camera.
I spoke to several well reviewed car stereo specialists in the Hampshire and London areas but I have been told that this stereo cannot be replaced because there are no compatible parts and fascia.
The only compatible one I found that will retain the steering wheel controls and the reversing camera was from a company called ICEBOX auto based in Liverpool.

The second option is from a company called Dasiata but again, their RHD one is not compatible with replacing the touch screen headunit. The LHD one unfortunately is compatible.

The third option is to use these modules that essentially stream a video into the factory headunit but I have used one of these before and they are very glitchy. Also the screen quality is very poor but I have only used the one from autoextra. There is another one (see link below) which is slightly different, and it would be great if someone who has used it can give a bit of review please?

I was wondering if I could get some advice on this please, especially from people in the UK who have changed their headunit to an aftermarket one and have been able to retain the steering wheel controls and reversing camera, or have used the one from icebox/ motrade. My car is the 2018 model. Many thanks in advance for your help.

Yes this is the carabc one that I have linked above from Motrade. Is this any good?

Not yet, planning to order one soon. The reviews on the page seem positive and good.

Regarding CARABC i don't think it's that great from us amazon reviews. Personally i think getting a new screen with better specs + fascia is better, my only concern is compatibility with controls and reverse camera.

Hi, I am new here. I have a 69plate (2019) Chr which i just purchased. Unfortunatly just missing out on the Android Auto etc... I purchased the CarABC unit and fitted it, i have listed my thought below.

Install was relatively easy, the dash comes away surprisingly easily and there are only a couple of screws and nuts to remove before you can gain access to the back of the radio. You have to remove 3 of the ribbon cables from the rear of the radio. The CarABC unit comes with its own wiring harness where the original cable plugs into the CarABC cable which plugs into the unit itself.

You then have to plug the actual unit into the cable and i chose to put this in the glove box but can easily be left behind the radio itself. Surprisingly, the unit did not come with any install instructions but i followed a guide on youtube.

With regard to the unit itself...
When the car is switched on, it automatically loads up into the CarABC unit. it probably takes 5 secs from ignition on. My phone connects directly to the unit (instead of the car) and it instantly recognises it is compatible with android auto. Android auto has worked flawlessly since i have installed this and i haven't noticed any specific issues yet. All options available in android auto work as they should from what i have tested so far.

In the CarABC unit settings, by default the original reversing camera is not selected, so you have to select this in order for it to come on automatically when you reverse. All steering wheel controls work as they should. you can still use the original unit to adjust car settings etc... the old radio works the same. To get back into the CarABC unit you need to go to music>Aux and it all loads up from there. I have not had any echo issues with phone calls either, but there is a setting to cancel echoes built into the unit itself.

As mentioned by other users, the resolution of the android auto screen is not the best, but is definitely not the worst! All the fonts/writing/roads names are perfectly legible and in my opinion, for all the extra functionality it brings, the CarABC unit is definitely worth it. Also, there is no need to rewire a mic, gps as it uses the phone/car unit. I think the only thing i haven't figured out is how to play radio whilst i have the android auto on. You can exit the CarABC unit and still play the original radio.

EDIT: Just to add, i paid a little bit more and bought from amazon.co.uk in case i had to return the unit. So far so good.

Hi, yes still working fine here. I have noticed that on first start after a while not driving(overnight), it does take longer to start up when the car is switched on. But after that, still working as expected.
