so summer is coming and I'm confused about how to set up the heater/air con. If I select 'auto' on the air conditioning controls do I still need to turn on the A/C using the controls or does the auto function switch it on/off depending on the temperature setting? I did read the manual but I'm still confused!

If it is to hot in the car you must A/C on. (Only "auto" is not cooling your car if the inside temp is higer than the outsite temp)

I think if you start from off and switch on auto then ac will come on. As said above to maintain the cabin temp it needs to be able cool the air as well as warm it. However, where the outside temp is at or below your selected temp then you can save fuel by switching off the aircon (leaving auto still on).
What confuses me is the recycle function. It keeps coming on randomly and I have not worked out why.

You have to turn on the AC (pump) manually with the AC button. When AC is on and Auto is on, the system will regulate the temperature and usage of the AC pump automatically. You can adjust the effectiveness/speed by switching between Eco (less cooling/heating capacity but more fuel economic), Normal or Fast (will try to get the wanted temperature as fast as possible).
A setting in the system will turn on recirculation on automatically when the AC is turned on to get the cabin temperature down as efficiently as possible.

If you like to adjust the air input mode by your self, it can be done by the dealer. They can remove the aircon recirc/outside auto switching!

Yes, I know. Have bought a cheap mini vci cable and use Techstream.
I think the recirculation mode is quite functional, since it only has to cool down the air inside.

I think I will stop fiddling with it then. I had not realised it was switching it on AND OFF for efficiency. I will watch out fir when it gets switched. Thanks for the info guys. Sorry for hijacking the topic.

Had this for the first time today after the outside temp reached 27C plus, thought I'd hit the recirculation button by accident, so switched it off but a stopped for fuel and it was back on as I set off.

Never seen it being done automatically before on a car..clever.

Sometimes when i press eco nothing happens. Sometimes it just engages full speed fan and pressing it again does nothing. Nothing is displayed in the dash.

Then sometimes i press it and it states "eco" or "fast". Why only sometimes lol? Due to allergies i always have it on recirculation so maybe thats why.

Update: Turned off Eco mode today and just drove in Normal mode; the automatic recirculation stopped working......so it only works in Eco Drive mode.

You can the automatic recirculation switch off at the vehicle setting in your multimedia screen.

You can read this in the personal preferences set up of the manual.

"Switch between outside air mode and the recirculation mode connected to the operation of the AUTO button"
-Default mode is ON
-You can change it in the multimedia display or let it be done by the Toyota dealer

Or do you mean something different?
