About to buy a C-HR

Hi all,

after hiring a C-HR for a long 250 mile drive to a family wedding, we loved it so much we have decided to buy a C-HR, probably a Design one year old.
The adaptive cruise control was great and sitting high up really helped with visibility. I also enjoyed the quality of the speakers.
A few questions which I am hoping you can help with:

1) Can the sat nav maps be updated?
2) Is there anyway to always have the radio screen on, instead of it going back to the sat nav screen.
3) As a self charging hybrid, is there anyway to manually charge/top up the battery?

When buying one, what should I look out for?

Thanks for any assistance.

yes, yes, no just check the history ,its a Toyota so you should be all good
1. Toyota provides 3 years of free updates. Everything after has to be purchased. But who cares? Anything after 2020 has Android Auto and Apple Car. Google Maps and Waze are much better and free!
2. Can't tell, I'm not using Toyota's navigation since Jan 2020, but Android Auto can provide voice instructions no matter the screen you're on.
3. No, it's a self charging model so there's no plug.

+1 to @ans message - do check the history and make sure warranty is alive and kicking.
If it's a 22 built model year or newer with the Smart Connect system make sure the vehicle infotainment unit has been removed from the previous owners My T account before taking delivery.

The Smart Connect system is the screen with just one power button / knob bottom left corner.

Have you decided on an exact spec & hybrid power unit option?
Thank you everybody for the replies.
I normally have my iphone plugged into the USB socket so I can charge and listen to music.
I will also be attaching front and rear dash cams, these normally go into the cigarette lighter or USB socket, can I use the 12v socket?
I will be going for a 1.8 Design in blue.

Much easier to wire it in the fuzebox. Easy to hide the cables. I had my Thinkware fitted like this by Toyota few years ago.

As for Design spec - It gained blind spot monitoring & rear cross traffic alert some time in 2022.
The Feb 22 brochure shows not available but the Feb 23 brochure shows fitted as standard.

Its worth seeking out as its an excellent useful safety feature.
