My CH-R keeps beeping (and drives me crazy)

Hi,

When I drive my CH-R first time it beeps (short beep-beep sound) when speed is about 10 km/h(6,2 mph) and next time when speed is about 35 km/h(17 mph). Will not beep when reverse. The weather doesn't affect (sun, rain, summer, winter).

- no visual sign anywhere
- factory settings are reset
- navigator sw is updated
- all sensors are well washed
- the front registration number and the washer is removed
- seat belt is on

- Audible not active (general settings in Toyota Touch 2 with Go)
- PCS is off
- parking assistant is off
- BSM is off
- RCTA is off
- HOLD is off
- LDA is off
- RSA is off
- speed limit/cruise is off
- navigator is off (no route defined)
- speed cam is off (and in the neighborhood no speed cameras)
- no mobile phone connected

Here is the double beep sound. It is at the very begin of the video. This is not the situation with my CH-R but only the beep-beep sound.

Does anyone have some good guess what do try next ;)

I think Toyota Finland (importer, dealer, maintenance etc.) is more engine repairman than software specialist ;)

I will spread this information (about the key battery, not my opinion about Toyota Finland) to the people who should know it to avoid situation like mine.

The beeping started again, and I don't know why this time. Last time it helped when I changed the battery in the keyfob but now it doesn't help.
I have changed the batteries not only once, not twice but three times (each time a different brand batteries). At the moment, Varta batteries are in use.

I have asked Toyota Finland about this, but they do not know the reason for beeping sound. The nearest Toyota service is 80km away and I am not going to go there just for the warm handshake.

This makes me insecure about driving a car becauseI startle when c-hr beeps. I don't care if the sensors are frozen or something because there is a clear reason for those alarms.

I know some designer has make this alarm sound for the car, but nobody seems to know what it is. Why don't they care about the customer or are they stupid ?! If only I knew, I'd send the mp4 file to Toyota's design department to find out why the car is beeping.

(I'm saying in video: again it beeps randomly)

ps. Aha, I cannot send mp4 file. Which format is permissible?
pps. I reduced the file -> 3.2 MiB and changed it from mp4 to avi file but still cannot upload

No error or alarm message will be displayed.
- sometimes beeps when I start to drive the car
- or / and when the car reaches approx. 30 km / h
- and almost certainly beeps when the car is stopped.

I need to check once again the speed limit warning (30 km/h ?)

I try to upload the my tiny video to Youtube...

I went through both the Finnish and English manuals, but I did not find any cases where c-hr beeps twice as in the video I posted.

When you open and close the c-hr doors with a keyfob, does your car beep at the same time as the direction indicators blink?

I've turned of lock/unlock beeping, but it still beeps sometimes once, sometimes twice and sometimes no beep at all when I start the engine (no idea which (no-)beep means what). But not the same tone of beeping as in your video.

If I disconnect / connect the battery (12V), will it reset the entire electrical system? I don't mean traction battery ;)
What if no error message is seen on the screen, does the error code still appear in OBD (you would think that when beep-beep is heard)?

Yes. I've tested it.
First I set RTA on and I drove a road with 30 km/h, 60 km/h and 80 km/h. C-HR acted as expected. Correct traffic sign is display and alarm is heard when I drove too fast, in other words above 10 km/h speed limit (that's what I've set). Warning is different than "my" beep-beep. :)
Then I set RTA off and drove the same road and no alarms and no traffic signs were displayed.

Just asking as there are lots of posts about it,
Have you switched of the camera/traffic alert?
One other user mentioned that his phone, when connected to car Bluetooth and the phone battery was low it would beep thru the car speakers

This is a complete mystery to me.

I took a test drive with camera/traffic alert on and off. No effect -beeping continues. Previously, I tested the problem by driving on a middle of the straight road with no one else nearby. This can easily be done in Finland... :D

I think this is a real malfunction but I will not drive 160km unless the reason is clear.

The only things I know for sure is that the beep frequency is 2 kHz, and (unlike I may be asserted) the first beep-beep will come, when the vehicle speed is approx. 30 km / h or the car has progressed to a certain time, which normally corresponds to approx. 30 km / h acceleration. The second time the car beeps when the car is stopped. C-hr does some measurements / calculations / tests while driving and announces with beep-beep, but I don't get it ???

I have been looking out for a double beep, and noticed that I get a double beep when I press the EV button and Ev mode is not available, and I noticed in the video the first double beep coincides with EV coming on. Can't see a connection immediately but I thought I would throw it in in case it triggers some ideas.

I noticed the same thing and lightly tested the EV mode, but I will seriously try that EV tomorrow (so I mean today).
Thanks for the tip!

The video below has one mystery beep first and then three EVmode beep.
In my opinion, they are not the same beep.

ps. The EVmode warning sounds the same whether the car is parked or in motion (so don't worry about the brake warning light).

You sure it's not RCTA alert?

Turn it off and leave BSM on and see if it stops.

The beep is not caused by the RCTA because the beep only sounds when I drive forward. The BSM works properly in my car because sometimes it alarms when it needs to. I also tried to put of both off-state, but peeps just goes on.

If I drive slowly enough (maybe about 25km / h) the c-hr will not beep while driving and not when I stop. But the journey folds too slowly at that speed. :D As I drive in the city, beeping is almost continuous: accelerate to traffic lights (beep), stop to traffic lights (beep), accelerate to traffic lights (beep), stop to traffic lights (beep). Even fewer beeps starts to <censored>.

Yeah, it wasn't a big success. You can't always win.

On the other hand, I made the kernel-based virtual machine work fine. I installed it for the first time today. The day's success is a bit on the plus side. :)
