Hi all
I am planning to buy a hybrid CH-R in the new year to replace my ageing Rover 75 which will fall foul of the new emission regulations coming in London soon. because i am often out of the country for up to 3 months at a time, the car will not be used and although i have off road storage i do not have a garage, my question is would lack of use especially during the winter months have a detrimental effect on the batteries. any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

You should be good,
Just disable the smart entry to avoid the car allways searching for the key to automatically open the doors, this way car won't be using battery,
One other thing is to make sure hybrid battery is left full (or almost full, with only 2 bars missing as to get it full you need to go downhill for a while),
By doing this you should be fine,
As a last resource you can Allways disconnect the negative pole in the small battery, the one used to start the car I guess.

Don,t disconnect the negative pole of the 12-volt battery.
After three months (special in the winter) when you connect it again the most safety systems give a warning and the dashboard
looks like a Christmas tree and you can make a trip to the dealer.
After 3 months I expect that the 12-volt battery is to low this means you can,t start your car.
So you have to call Toyota emergency or jumpstart your car.
The best way is to connect your 12-volt battery with a smart charger but I understand that is not possible in your situation
(Car is parked outside).

Anyway, I think 3 months is to lang but ask your dealer if he has a solution but I expect not.

Buy a small power pack that has connections for the car battery as well, I bought one that fits in a sandwich box. Keep it under the seats.

Do a search for this:

Energizer 9000mAh Power Bank and Jump Starter

I paid about £66

Hi Smartly
i had already bought one of those power pack jump starters, a brilliant little device, i have also bought a float charger which i am currently trying out on my rover 75 2.5 and it seems to be just the job.
thanks for the help, most appreciated.
